Easter 2025

Seeing is Believing

At dawn on the first Easter, no one believed. Not even Jesus’ closest friends. But something changed them—and it wasn’t blind faith. This Easter message explores how three people saw the empty tomb and slowly came to believe something they never expected: that Jesus had to rise. Whether you’re curious, skeptical, or somewhere in between, this story invites you to take a second look and consider what they saw… and what they missed.

At dawn on the first Easter, there were no believers. The disciples believed Jesus was dead. They believed their own lives were in peril. They didn’t know what to believe about Jesus, but on Easter morning, the did not believe he was the Messiah. What changed them? They didn’t simply decide to change what they believed, but they went through a process. The New Testament authors tell the Easter story in a way that invites critical thinking. In fact, they practically beg the reader to be skeptical and to critically analyze the events of Easter Sunday. John accomplishes this by recording how three different people “saw” the events of Easter. But there was one thing that none of them saw (yet) that was hidden in plain sight. They didn’t see that Jesus “had to rise”. He had to rise because it was impossible for death to hold him, because the sentence was paid. And once a person sees this, well, seeing is believing.
