7 Deadly Sins
In our day and age, society often views the concept of “sin” as archaic and outdated. And yet we’ve all come face-to-face with our brokenness, both ours and others’. Each of us knows the shame, frustration, and sadness that come in the aftermath of not loving God or others with our whole hearts. And try as we might, our willpower alone isn’t enough to make our sin go away. We need help. We need a savior, someone to deliver us from our sin.
Episode 1 - “Denial”
Sin is not as rule-breaking but as relationship-abandoning. We drift from God, the source of living water, and replace him with things that can’t satisfy. What begins as subtle drift becomes a pattern of digging “broken cisterns,” looking to success, pleasure, control, or identity to give us what only God can. The tragedy isn’t just that we sin. It’s that we don’t see it; we disconnect our choices from our emptiness and insist nothing’s wrong. That’s why this series matters: being a sinner isn’t fatal, but denying it is. Until we’re honest about where we’re looking for life, we’ll keep returning to what leaves us dry.
Episode 2 - “Envy”
This week's sin is the invisible inner condition that steals joy and gives birth to destructive actions. It desires what another person has and turns someone else's blessing into your burden. This sin resents the good fortune of others and delights in their misfortune. It is an utterly selfish and self-focused sin.
Episode 3- “Gluttony”
This week's sin is not about having needs; it's about letting our wants take the lead. It takes good things and gives them too much power over our lives. It teaches us to chase comfort, pleasure, and excess while ignoring the deeper hunger of the soul. And it slowly replaces contentment with an endless desire for more.
Episode 4- “Greed”
Greed doesn't always look like greed—it often disguises itself as ambition, success, or simply wanting a little more. In this message, we explore Jesus' parable that exposes the illusion of "more" and reveals how the pursuit of wealth, possessions, or security can quietly replace our trust in God. While greed promises satisfaction, significance, and control, it never delivers enough. Discover how true security and lasting fulfillment are found not in what we own, but in the God who provides.
Episode 5 - “Sloth”
Unlike simple laziness, it is a lack of prioritization that starts with a small drift that leads a person off course. It shows up when a person avoids the effort required to love God and others, often leading to spiritual stagnation. The root of the sin is an aversion to the demands of love, leading to a lack of motivation rather than just physical inaction.
Episode 6 - “Vanity”
As Carly Simon almost sang, ‘You’re so vain, you probably think this sermon is about you.’ And honestly… it is. But it’s also much bigger than that. While pride often comes from strength (I actually think I’m better), vanity often comes from insecurity (I need you to confirm that I’m enough). And if you’re not sure that’s true, just look around. Why do companies spend billions marketing to your insecurities? Why are social media platforms built to keep you seen, liked, and followed? Why do so many today dream of becoming influencers? Vanity isn’t just a struggle—it’s the air we breathe. The danger is not that vanity is obvious, but that it feels normal. Which means we all carry symptoms. Today, we’re going to look at how to recognize it in ourselves and how to actually get free.
Episode 7 - “Wrath”
Jonah’s anger doesn’t come from nowhere; it reveals what he loves, what he expects, and what he believes he’s owed. When God shows mercy, Jonah burns with rage, exposing how easily we resist the very grace we’ve received. This message reframes anger as a diagnostic tool: it doesn’t just show that something is wrong; it shows what matters most to us. The gospel reveals a God who doesn’t lash out in wrath, but absorbs it, inviting us to do the same.
Episode 8- “Pride”
We’ve all heard it said that pride goes before a fall. But few people believe it. Why? Because the very nature of pride blinds us to its presence. Pride is the elevation of ourselves to the position God deserves in our hearts. God always brings down the proud. It is only a question of when. In this message, we’ll talk about how to recognize and get rid of pride the easy way, before consequences get rid of pride the hard way.
